The Austin Winery 'Spaghetti Western' 2021

42% montepulciano, 30% aglianico, 28% sangiovese

A red wine blend made of iconic texas wine grapes. The resulting wine is full of fruity notes on the nose followed closely by flavors of white pepper, minerality, fresh fennel and dark dried fruit.

A round, medium-bodied red with medium tannins and a long finish. The grapes for this now-iconic wine blend come from a variety of vineyards in west texas. Montepulciano from fambro vineyard, aglianico from one way vineyard, and sangiovese from walker vineyard make a powerful trio in this wine.

This is our 3rd vintage of Spaghetti and while it is a departure from our previous 2 vintages, it is managing to shape up to be it’s own best thing. The first point to address is the reductino of Sangio from over 93% to 28% of the blend. Simply put, fruit is in high demand in Texas and crop yields can fluctuate year to year.

We had initially only planned to release 100 cases of this wine but ended up mulling over some blending for a good while. We wanted to keep it Italian, and we have Aglianico in spades this year. We found that they blended nicely, especially for Cooper’s high acid aims. The Monte was a late add but we’re really happy with how it steers the blend.

Our last major Monte showcase was the ‘18 varietal bottling. The extra depth suits the other two wines perfectly.
